BGB inspect Chaltachara mouza to set up a camp on the land belonging to Jumma families in Matiranga

On 6 May 2014, Polashpur Zone Commander of 29th Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Lt. Cornel Mokhlesur Rahman with his battalion made a survey at 207 Chaltachara mouza under Matiranga upazila in Khagrachari district. It was reported that, the BGB surveyed the land to acquire it for setting up a BGB camp on this land. Accordingly, the commander arranged the paper documents for settlement on the land. However, at present any kind of land settlement is not allowed in CHT.

A local Union Council member said that few years back some miscreants tried to grab the indigenous peoples land by bringing settlers from Feni and Heyako region. However, due to protest of the local people those settlers forced to leave the land. Now local people claim that that, the government authority and the military are trying to grab their land by establishing BGB camp there.

Name of the persons supposed to be evicted from their land are (a) Bhuvan Mohan Tripura (45), (b) Joni Kumar Tripura (35) and Mohan Tripura (38).
