Insecurity among indigenous peoples of Northern region of Bangladesh increased,demand for immediate formation of land commission to restitute the dispossessed land of them

On 24 February 2015, Jatiya Adivasi Parishad and Kapaeeng Foundation jointly organized a press conference protesting ongoing violence, evictions, murder andrape, and demanded to ensure security of indigenous peoples of northern region of Bangladesh at Reporters Unity in Dhaka.

National Seminar on “Progression of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Recommendations to Bangladesh: Indigenous Peoples’ Perspective”held in Dhaka

On 18 December 2014, a national seminar titled “Progression of Universal Periodic Review (UPR)Recommendations to Bangladesh: Indigenous Peoples’ Perspective”was organized by Kapaeeng Foundation with support from Action Aid Bangladesh at CIRDAP International Conference Center in Dhaka. Over one hundred and fifty participants, from both indigenous and mainstream population with different working backgrounds, participated in the event.

Seminar on Land and Human Rights Protection Organized in Dhaka: Demands for implementation of traditional land rights of indigenous peoples and enactment of IPs Rights Act

On 27 September 2014, Kapaeeng Foundation (KF), Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples Forum (BIPF) and Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD) organized a seminar titled “Land Rights and Protection of Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Bangladesh” at CIRDAP Auditorium, Dhaka. The seminar highlighted the issues of land and land related human rights violations against Indigenous peoples in the country. Over one hundred and fifty participants, both indigenous and mainstream population, with different working background, participated very actively in the seminar.

Rakhaines at the Verge of Extinction: Civic right groups reveal the dire situation of Rakhaine people

The Rakhaine people have been living in different areas of Borguna and Patuakhali districts for hundreds of years. The history of these areas is intertwined with the culture, tradition, belief and social system of the Rakhaine people. However, the Rakhaine people have gradually been marginalized in their homeland in the recent times. They are being evicted from their lands — losing their homesteads, water bodies and even the places for worship. Their life, livelihood and above all their existence are under serious crisis now.

Training workshop on UPR monitoring process and implementation of UPR recommendations held in Rangamati

On 16-17 September 2014, a training on Universal Periodic Review (UPR) monitoring process and implementation of UPR recommendations was jointly organized by Kapaeeng Foundation and Action Aid at Sabarang Restaurant in Rangamati city. About 35 trainees took part in the training from the three hill districts.
