2nd National Indigenous Women Conference held in Dhaka: Indigenous women declared Dhaka Declaration for united movement

Second National Indigenous Women Conference was held at CBCB Centre in Dhaka on September 6-7, 2014.The two-day long national conference was jointly organised by Bangladesh Indigenous Women’s Network (BIWN) and Kapaeeng Foundation in co-operation with Oxfam and European Union with the titled ‘Strengthen Unity and Solidarity for Establishing of the Rights of Indigenous Women’.

Kapaeeng organises a discussion titling “Second International Decade and Situation of IPs in Bangladesh” in Dhaka marking International Indigenous Day

On 11 August 2014, Kapaeeng Foundation organized a discussion meeting on “Second International Decade and Situation of Indigenous Peoples in Bangladesh” at National Museum auditorium in Dhaka. The meeting was organized to celebrate the occasion of International Indigenous Peoples Day 2014 with the support of European Union and Oxfam.

Community Seminar-cum-Training Workshop on Basic Human Rights and Universal Periodic Review

On 9-10 July 2014, Kapaeeng Foundation (KF), along with Wicklife Syiem Jubo Sangha and Tribal Welfare Association,organized a two day long “Training on Basic Human Rights and Universal Periodic Review” at Jagot Jyoti Pathagar in Sunamganj town.The training was organized to build awareness and enhance the capabilities on basic human rights. A total of 21 indigenous people with diverse working background, belonging to Banai, Garo, Hajong, Monipuri and Khasi indigenous groups attended this training programme.

Regional Launching Programme of “Human Rights Report 2013 on Indigenous Peoples in Bangladesh”

On 21May 2014, regional launching of “Human Rights Report 2013 on Indigenous Peoples in Bangladesh” of Kapaeeng Foundation (KF) was held at the District Council Auditorium, Sylhet. The regional launching event was supported by Oxfam and European Union, the organizations which also supported the publication of the report.

New York: May 19, 2014. Kapaeeng Foundation, International Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission (CHTC), International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA), and Shimin Gaikou Centre organized an event titled “Marginalization and Impunity: Violence in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh” during the 13th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the UN FF building in New York.

BIWN demands to stop alarming violence against indigenous women and girls and punishment of perpetrators

Leaders of Bangladesh Indigenous Women’s Network (BIWN) voiced to prevent alarming violence against indigenous women and girls and also demanded for ensuring punishment of perpetrators to ensure access to justice of indigenous women.

Women Leadership training on Basic Human Rights and Women Rights was held in Bogra

On 24-25 March 2014, Kapaeeng Foundation, Bangladesh Indigenous Women’s Network (BIWN) and Jatiya Adivasi Parishad organized a two day long “Women Leadership training on Basic Human Rights and Women Rights” at TMSS training centre in Bogra.The training was organized to build leadership skills and knowledge of indigenous women’s rights focusing on basic human rights and women rights. A total of 27 indigenous women belonging to Santal, Oraon, Munda, Mahato, Singh, Rajowar, Fulmali and Rabidas indigenous communities were participated in the training.
