An indigenous girl gang raped by a group of miscreants in Mirasarai and her father committed suicide over the trauma

On 12th November 2013, am indigenous Tripura girl (14) was gang raped by two miscreants namely Md. Alauddhin (21) and Md. Joinal Abedin (25) of Tripura Para village in the area of Talbaria of 9 Mirasarai sadar union under Mirsarai upazila, Chittagong. Her father Alindra Tripura (37) committed suicide over the trauma for being unable to carry on the sexual assault of her daughter on 13th November the next day of the incident. The local shop keeper Mafizur Rahman, informed that Mr. Alindra came to his shop with very worried face on the day he committed suicide by drinking insecticide at 5:00 pm. Mr. Alindra was a daily labor and he was sole earning member for his family members cultivating crops in other people’s land.

It is also learnt that on that day around 8:00 pm, while the girl came out from her room to go to toilet at. the two miscreants tightened up her, and took her to a nearby area forcibly. She was raped by some other rapists one by one repeatedly. People rescued her when she was screaming. After the incident, victim’s family informed about the gang rape to UP Chairman Zafar Uddin Chowdhury. He suggested to the family to file a case with local police station against the perpetrators for further punishment.  Mr. Alindra filed a case with Mirasarai police station against two culprits before committed suicide on 13th November. The perpetrators were arrested by police and sent to jail in the meantime.

The dead body of Alindra was buried in the village after a post modem.  The girl victim was admitted to the hospital for her better treatment. She was made 2 tests including forensic test in Chittagong Hospital by Head of Forensic Medicine Dr Syed MA Kashem. Meanwhile, on 15th November, a fact-finding team of Bangladesh Indigenous Forum, Kapaeeng Foundation and Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad visited the residence of victim to investigate the situation. After coming back from the sport the fact-finding team organized a press conference at Chittagong Press Club and demanded a punishment for the rapists as soon as possible.

The team also urged the government to provide ensure financial support minimum 1,000,000 BDT to the victim family; to ensure security of lives and properties of indigenous Tripura community and to allocate Khas land in the area for them.
