Indigenous boy shot dead in Naogaon in a clash over land

On 22 June 2015, an indigenous boy was shot dead and several people were injured in a clash between some indigenous and Bengali people over land dispute at Akbarpur village in Patnitala upazila of Naogaon district.

The deceased has been identified as Mithun Orao, 12. It is learnt that some 20-25 indigenous and Bengali families had been living on some 1.5 acres of waqf land at Badhua Pukurpar in Akbarpur village for the last 14-15 years.Claiming the ownership overthe land, one Abdul Matin, a resident of the area, was trying to evict the indigenous people from the land with an aim to grab it.

On that day in the morning, Matin along with some 50-60 of his supporters, equipped with firearms and lethal weapons attacked the indigenous people over the issue that triggered a clash.At one stage, Matin fired four rounds of bullets from his licensed gun, leaving Mithun dead on the spot. Ten people were injured during the hour-long clash.

The injured were rushed to upazila health complex from where seven were shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.On information, police rushed in and arrested sixteen people, including Matin, in this connection.
