Police charge baton on protesters during peacefull strike in Bandrarban demanding arrest and punishment of the rapists

On 27 January 2013 a half day strike was called by ‘Narir Proti Shohingshota Protirodh Andolon’ (Resistance Movement Against Violence Against Women) in three hill districts of the Chittagnog Hill Tracts protesting against violence against women across the country and demanding arrest and punishment of killers of Thomaching Marma. During the strike at arround 10:00 am police charged baton on the protesters at bus stand area. Consequently some of the protesters got injured critically.

At that time Ms. Shahana Begam, former president of Durbar Nari Network; Ms. Dawnai Prue Neli, president of Bangladesh Human Rights Commission, Bandarban district branch and joint convener of the Narir Proti Shohingshota Protirodh Andolon (NRDPA); Amreeta Tripura, president of Bangladesh Tripura Christian Students’ Association, Bandarban branch; George Koling Tripura, Organizing Secretary and George Tripura, president of central committee of the organization sustained critical injuries.

Mentionable that, on 21 December 2012 a 14 years old indigenous Marma girl named Thomaching Marma killed after rape by miscreants at Baradulu Para of Kalampati union of Kaukhali upazila under Rangamati district. The NRDPA organized protest demonstration on 26 January 2013 and half day strike against increasing violence against women across the country including rape and killing of Thomaching Marma. Police charged baton during the strike.
